We are binging The Sopranos again - we've watched it twice (well spread out since it came out in 21
years ago).
Even on the third time through, it surprises, captivates, amazes, appalls - how David Chase and writers turn such a malevolent character into such a watchable, fascinating human being that you often sympathize with (along with Walter White of Breaking Bad, such an amazing anti hero!) is like magic.
The first time through, it was the shock value and violence.
The second time, it was about the depth of the characters.
This time through (we just finished season 2) we are enthralled with Tony's mother, the humor (very dark humor), and the skillful writing - but also, how weak in comparison many of the more recent shows (Amazon, Netflix, Hulu et all must have a factory cranking them all out) are. And some of Tony, Paulie or Christopher's malapropisms are priceless.
Now I gotta go have some "manigott" or "gapagole" for lunch !

but that's the great thing about the arts - no one is wrong or right - it is simply individual taste!

(106,334 posts)both were favorites of mine. It isn't the violence (I've watched Deadwood and Hell on Wheels multiple times) but something...

(323 posts)because David Chase wrote Tony Soprano like he was a normal father, just worried about his daughter's well-being and his son's grades and such. It was one of the few shows that I could say that the main character talked like me instead of me finding myself talking like characters. I loved that aspect.

(13,394 posts)#99 was the one that was "blown up" in one of the episodes.
Crap was blown up. Then it didn't go right. Load the stuff back into the hopper (poor production assistants (drones) Blow it up again. As I recall it was blown up three times before the 3rd one worked...and it was a hot summer day.
