Independent Lens 9to5: The Story of a Movement
I loved the movie Nine to Five back in its day in the 1970s.
This is a documentary about it some 40+ years later.
It sure tells the story of my working "career".
And yes, I made a sh*tload of coffee in my day and I recall being condemned for daring to take a few leftovers from a package home rather than throw it away.
Between the coffee making and getting a "salad vichyssoise" for one of the important visitors, I must say that I hate being a secretary (aka slave!).

Talk about low pay, first job was $2.88/hr. Last job some 20+ years later was $11.00.
No wonder I don't bring in much from SS. Its not that I didn't pay into it, I just never earned enough to get anything much out of it as is the case with so many of the women that are my age. It is a very sad situation. We made $.59/hr. to a man's wage of $1.00/hr.

Even though it is 1-1/2 hrs. long, I'll have to admit it, I watched it twice!
It was fun watching this and it made me remember those times. In fact, I briefly worked for Blue Shield for $2.00 an hr.
It was a "Union" job supposedly and it was a room filled with mostly black women that had been doing this for many years behind typewriters. And there I was among-st them, all 18 years old of me.
It took me 2 hrs. to get there and I was LATE the second day on the job. I lasted two weeks and quit.
I felt sorry for the women that had been there for most of their lives.
I think that things have changed a bit but not as much as some of us had hoped.
This is not to be confused with the movie 9 to 5 from the 1970s. Many that I've shared this with say, "I saw that a long time ago".
It is a whole different perspective on it and I'm glad that Jane Fonda opted to do this once again.
