"Bank of Dave" on Netflix

Rory Kinnear (Our Flag Means Death) plays Dave Fishwick, a successful van dealer in the Northern English town of Burnley, who wants to open his own bank to help his community because people can't get loans from the established banks headquartered in London. The problem is there hasn't been a new British bank in 150 years but Dave moves ahead hoping to at least force the chartering authorities to explain why he can't do it. He hires a London lawyer, played by Joel Fry (Yesterday), who takes on the case expecting he'll just get some billable hours talking Dave out if it. But he doesn't anticipate Dave's resolve, or the lure of both Burnley's small town charm and Dave's activist niece (Phoebe Dynevor of Bridgerton). Hugh Bonneville (W1A) plays the villain and legendary rock band Def Leppard figures prominently in this relentlessy charming story about nice people in a David-and-Goliath battle with the privileged elite that reminded me of Local Hero.

It's very low-key like a lot of these little British comedies but it's just a nice, feel-good movie. I often stream movies in pieces but this one kept me engaged start to finish.

Excellent. Surprisingly so. Definitely a feel good movie with lots of
twists. I would highly recommend it. Moving, funny and based on
true story.

Even the campy elements was actually enjoyably entertaining.

I'd watch it again for comfort food. The story line was just what the doctor ordered for me.

was the explanation of the bankers who tanked the international economy, who were bailed out by taxpayers, and then they turned around and would not lend to the tax payers who bailed them out.

That should be on billboards.
