Secret Roku menus help you get the most out of your experience
Whether you're new to Roku devices or you've been streaming with one for years, you've undoubtedly found plenty to like and get the most out of your use. But did you know Roku has hidden a host of secret menus that aim at helping you get even more out of your experience?
The secret menus available on your Roku device allow you to check your wireless settings, make ad and screenshot preferences, and if you're a developer, test your app from the comfort of your couch. Best of all, they give you the full control over your Roku device that isn't so easy to find (if it's available at all) on competing set-top boxes.
Before we help you find those secret menus, be aware that if you're a novice user, some of them may be less useful than they may be for more advanced users. You should also know that the only way to access the menus is by being quick with your thumbs by tapping buttons in rapid succession.
But if that doesn't bother you (and you're someone who still remembers the old Contra cheat code), you might find the Roku secret menus useful and kinda fun to access. So if you're in the mood to look under the hood of your Roku device, read on to check out how to access its secret menus.

(58,287 posts)Do you recommend Roku over the Apple device like it?
And if I have a smart TV do I really need Roku?
I finally got rid of Spectrum which kept raising my rates and double billing me.
So I am looking for an alternative, I don't watch TV but I do like to watch movies.

(61,138 posts)True fact: I found my first streaming device on with a flatscreen TV left out for grabs in front of someones. The label said everything worked and that it was free for the taking. So I did. Thats why I have Roku.
It works for me. New units are only about $25 or $30 at Best Buy. What have you got to use?
As for smart TV, youll probably find it easier to upgrade an external device than one that is built into the TV. I have a smart TV, but the built in streaming feature is way outdated and cannot be upgraded.

(4,889 posts)I prefer Roku over the built-in stuff in my TV. The interface is much easier to use and I've found the picture quality and sound to be superior to the streamer built into the TV. I have an Amazon Firestick on this TV, too, and I prefer Roku over that as well. I bit the bullet and bought the top of the line Roku Ultra. It has been an awesome streaming device. You could get one of the inexpensive Roku sticks and test it out. You might be surprised at how much better it is! And if not, it wasn't a major investment.

Roku gets better reviews than the Amazon Firestick, but I still wasn't sure which one to buy.
I am going to give Roku a try.
