Hit Man on Netflix
Has anyone watched this?
I think it's fantastic. Great script, great acting. Loved the main character. I wasn't familiar with him but
now he's one of my favorites. Let me know what you think.

(14,715 posts)The ending was a bit too 'happy ever after' Hallmark Movie for me.
Mme. Defarge
(8,534 posts)where the wife of the happy couple disappears after murdering her husband and children, and, after changing her appearance, lives happily ever after doing stand up comedy at a club in Los Angeles.
Wouldnt that be hilarious?
And it seemed a bit rushed as well.

(20,839 posts)It has a lot going for it - especially the main character. "Who the f is Gary?"

(1,324 posts)... and we agree, it's very good. I'm familiar with the director, Richard Linklater, but the leads are new. We'll be seeing Glen Powell and Adria Arjona again, you can bet.

(8,534 posts)that if youre entertaining enough it excuses anything, including committing murder? The will to self-actualisation, to power, trumps everything? The nihilism in this film is so obvious I almost wonder if Linklater is playing a big joke on his audience.

(4,897 posts)Dark comedy is my jam and Hit Man is the perfect dark comedy for my taste. Based on reviews and trailers I expected to like it but I it far exceeded my expectations, though of course ymmv.
Can anyone suggest other dark comedies they've liked?

(24,002 posts)Not new, but very good. The show "Bodkin."

(4,897 posts)I put Funny Story on my watch list and started Bodkin last night (episodes 1 & 2). I'm enjoying it but so far wouldn't have thought to classify it as dark comedy.

It gets weirder as it progresses.

(37,883 posts)But based on comments on this thread, maybe I'll finish it.
What I liked:
--I thought the original hitman was perfect, exactly like what you'd think a hitman would look and act like. The professor who replaces him sees he has a conundrum: he has to change his appearance to match his client's expectations. His professorial appearance just doesn't cut it: too humdrum.
I liked the various portrayals of hit men that he came up with. There was the sort of sleazy guy in the suit and then the character with the straight hair and who talked a gory scene with the client. This must have been great fun for an actor.
Oh, and the most fun part was to see the person hiring the hit man on the lineup wall. Their expressions were priceless. There was a good deal of character choices with this part of the film.
Another character I really, really liked is the female boss of the unit. Again, creative, realistic character choice. In many ways, I think she may be the best actor in the whole film, and that's saying something because the male lead is really, really good.
I liked how this female boss handled knowing that he let her off and guided her out of the decision to hire the hitman. I think it is completely reasonable to understand that sometimes people are pushed to do stupid things and that they may be desperate and might even change their minds the next day. Recognizing that she was one of them and did not deserve to go through the legal process seemed reasonable to me.
What I didn't like and where I lost interest:
The lover discussions. Bleh. The sex scenes were pretty good, though. Every time she opened her mouth about why she wanted to hire the hitman or how she handled issues with her spouse, I just wanted to say shut up. What a bore. And who cares.
It was actually at this point that I turned the show off and decided not to finish it.
The scene where she was dressed up as the airline pilot was kind of cute, and the puns were good.

(24,002 posts)Granted, the movie is only 2 hours long. But if you don't like it, bail! I really enjoyed it. In fact, I reviewed it for our local paper.
