Peaky Blinders
"Peaky Blinders is a British crime drama television series primarily set in Birmingham, England in the aftermath of World War I. The series, which was created by Steven Knight and produced by Caryn Mandabach Productions, Screen Yorkshire and Tiger Aspect Productions, follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family. Screen Yorkshire provided funding for the production through the Yorkshire Content Fund. It was the first production to receive funding from the Yorkshire Content Fund, which in turn made certain the majority of the show was filmed in Yorkshire as part of the deal.[1]
Cillian Murphy plays Tommy Shelby, the gang's leader, and Sam Neill as Chester Campbell is a commissioned detective from Belfast who is tasked with suppressing the gang.[2] The series creators have reused the name of Peaky Blinders, a 19th century urban youth gang who were active in the city from the 1890s and were believed to sew razor blades into their caps.[3] ."

A very good series and I highly recommend it. I'm into season 3 now and am very glad to have read that the show will run for 6 seasons and maybe even a 7th.
My favorite supporting character is Alfie Solomons played by Tom Hardy.

(6,537 posts)that I binge watch it all at once and am left bereft of any more Peaky for a year or more. Tom Hardy was magnificent as Alfie Solomons; so sorry he died. Alfie that is, not Tom Hardy!

(12,877 posts)I was reluctant at first because I figured it was just another gangster show and I am a little put off by Cillian Murphy's creepy eyes but the production values and historical detail are amazing, and Murphy's performance is superb. But the best thing is the writing. The dialogue is carefully written and fresh, and I love the interweaving of Anglo-Irish relations, class and labor tensions and Roma culture. The best performances are Murphy, Helen McCrory and Tom Hardy but all the acting is top drawer with the single glaring exception of Adrien Brody as an annoying mafioso caricature. I think my favorite character is Curly: "Tommy, I don't think that's flour in those bags." Later on, Tommy says that Curly is a lot smarter than he appears, and we already knew that.
