Addiction & Recovery
Related: About this forumI've been (mostly) good this week
Finally tapering off the Xanax and can't wait to be off that. That stuff makes me feel like shit.
But if you put a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black in front of me, damn skippy I would drink that.
It's a very good thing I don't have one.
But it's scary - it's a feeling of powerlessness.
All I can do is avoid it at this time.
If you want to lose weight, don't buy oreos
If you want to stop drinking, don't buy booze
So that in moments like these, my laziness and procrastination can actually be assets for a change

Handed the power over to my ancestors and nature. You may be headed for a breakthrough tonight my friend. It does feel good to be quit. It really does.

(55,476 posts)The question is do we want a cure?
Imagine you could take a pill that would take any current and future cravings for ETOH (chem symbol for alcohol)
Would you take it?
Our first answer would be yes, but then there's that little voice in the back of our head. The one that came from the addiction that would scream "no!"
No bones about it, being drunk was fun. Being completely shnockered and passing out at the keyboard was FUN.
I was an "I drink alone" type
It killed the self doubt and self loathing
It also killed ME
And if you look at what ETOH does on a molecular level to your body, you'd probably never touch it in the first place. It literally short circuits the neurons in your brain. High by brute force.
But yeah, I want that pill
