Addiction & Recovery
Related: About this forumI've never posted here before, but I probably should have done so.
I'm recovering from alcohol addiction, and doing well. I hope the same for the rest of the folks here.
I just came across a couple of books that look interesting, so I'm posting a link to the review, in case anyone is interested.

(7,456 posts)I'm always open-minded about others' opinions and perspectives, I can see valid points on either side of that argument.
I'm not big on strict adherence to one particular whole set of ideas, I gather and cherry pick little tidbits from multiple sources and custom build a program that works for me. For instance, I feel like some parts of the Big Book were written specifically for me, I relate to them word for word, some parts not so much.
That of course is my opinion and experience only, what works for me won't work for the next person and vice-versa.

(38,726 posts)This is the place to learn about addiction. Ask questions. What would you like to learn about it?

(79 posts)I must have missed your post, my apologies. I believe my biggest question has no answer.
What I just can't wrap my head around is why someone would choose to do an extremely dangerous drug such as heroin in the first place.

(11,463 posts)heroin when they can't get anymore refills.
Its a good question why, aside from that pathway, why out of the blue someone would decide to "try" heroin for shits and giggles. A lot of time peer pressure, but geez, who is that weak-minded and desperate for approval Many are, obviously. Myself, I never went beyond pot, and ecstasy a couple of times.
You've probably heard of "pill parties" these days where everyone contributes pills found in their parents' medicine cabinets or wherever and dump it all in a bowl and mix it up, and everyone helps themselves to a random pick of one or two or three or whatever.

(79 posts)I believe my son bought many types of pills From the street, Maybe the market did dry up a lot. I still find it crazy to resort to a drug where the dangers are well known. Popping pills is crazy as well.
