A supportive resource for people recovering from addictions (drugs, alcohol, over-eating, gambling, etc.) which negatively affect all areas of their lives, and for friends and family of recovering or active addicts.wildeyed

(24,149 posts)He doesn't function well because of years of meth addiction. He's no longer addicted, can't afford it when on the streets, but his brain is fried. Naranon says to let his higher power help him, but I don't know if he has one? After everything that's happened for the past 17 years, it sure doesn't seem that way.
Florida sucks, has very few resources for it's unemployed and homeless population. Tried to sign up yesterday, but it took too long at the Health Dept. getting him a clinic card and the homeless center had closed it's processing before we got done at the Health Dept. They only do intake M-W-F 9-12 and the woods where he hides and sleeps is not anywhere near there. There are 2 shelters, but those are really bad places where you get ripped off and he's afraid of them. Had issues when he tried to sleep there, got woken up twice with people trying to steal his shoes.
He doesn't do much to help himself, won't get the mental help he needs or when he's at the end of his rope and willing, doesn't have a way there and you have to go in person for the first visit. He also has an anal fistula, so is in bad physical shape. I've encouraged him to apply at the Homeless Medical Center and for their mental health component as well.
We could let him stay in our shed, it's lighted, has electricity a fan and heat and there's a bathroom and shower and refrig. The thing is he and his dad have anger issues and have hurt each other previously so that terrifies me as well. I will be checking out the list provided by JSO to see if any of the places can help.
I couldn't stop crying before but writing this has calmed me a tiny bit. Thanks for listening to my grief.
