(14,595 posts)"Don't drink (or drug), read the Big Book and go to meetings." I would add to that "try to regularly call another alcoholic." Has worked for me for 31 years, including around 20 years of traveling in my work.
I'm retired now and I guess I'm now an old-timer but still know that if I drink I'm a dead man. Old-timers also taught me to never, never get complacent and assume I could never drink again. Unfortunately, I'm no longer able to attend in-person meetings.
Thanks for posting this question, as it reminded me to dust off that old Big Book and give myself a little refresher!

(23,880 posts)My mom died in the beginning of December years ago, so it really hasn't been the same since. I sort of dread the holidays. Since I've been clean, I skip Christmas parties. Makes it a lot easier. And my wife is very understanding. She doesn't have a problem going to parties by herself.
