The week of decadence in Detroit

Traditionally this is the most decadent week of the year. The Big Three shut down over the Holidays as do a lot of related businesses. I'm in Advertising and any agency tied to the car companies close as well. It's a time of parties and heavy alcohol abuse. When my kids were growing up, we let them stay up later and later as the week progressed. It was so out of control, it wasn't funny. I drank so much I can't believe I don't have liver damage. By New Years Day, even I said "Uncle!"

I've been sober for a little over three years. The Holidays don't mean as much to me these days. I skip most parties and I really don't miss it one bit. And, I actually get stuff done over the break, instead of drinking all evening, and then nursing a hangover half the next day.

Wishing everyone here a happy and clean Holidays!
