(5,157 posts)Im sure there are a few good ones there, but it is ground zero for fraudulent rehabs that are only in it for the insurance money.
Different approaches work for different people. There are rehabs that rely mainly on 12 Step programs, others that take a holistic approach (that worked for me), some that offer Dual Diagnosis programs for patients with other mental health issues. And thats just the tip of the iceberg.
I think the only way to find what you need is to research the heck out of it. Look centers up online, read reviews, then call on the phone and ask a million questions, ask for references you can directly contact. Any rehab that is legit and truly wants to help patients recover will be more than willing to answer your questions, provide references, and let you tour the facility.

(14,599 posts)Call your local AA Central Office and ask to talk with an experienced member about treatment resources in your area. They will know about any local resources and their reputation.
We have a couple here in the North-Central Kentucky/Southern Indiana area if you're interested. My SIL just used one in Indianapolis last year that wasn't too bad, although I think with some religious overtones.
You could also attend a local AA meeting, explain why you're there and you will be received with compassion and members will sit down with you and fill you with helpful information on resources. You do not need to be an alcoholic to attend.

(21,714 posts)There. Many AA meetings are open meetings and you could attend. Folks in the room probably know the good ones and the ones to avoid. Try to go to a larger discussion meeting where you can ask. Also, could try al anon for ideas.
In my work life, I reviewed studies of rehab facilities. The most effective were not the most expensive. You dont need gardens, spas, and yoga classes to get sober or clean. You might need medical intervention to detox or rehab. I went to out patient rehab and it was great. I also know many who never went to rehab and instead just did AA or NA.
