Addiction & Recovery
Related: About this forumToday is a new day
Its been a rough couple of months.
Today I am grateful for the roof over my head, internet access, the delicious cup of coffee sitting on my bedside table, the lovely hot shower I just enjoyed, and fresh, clean sheets. I am grateful for my Mom and Dad. I love them so much.
I am very blessed to be safe and comfortable today.

(57,309 posts)Yes look around and feel gratitude.
I have been somewhat anxious about a health issue (not life threatening!).
But it is snowing and cold outside, and I am warm and snug inside a cozy home.
I am enjoying the great conversations on DU.
My little dog is snuggled up to me.
I have food in the kitchen and a roof over my head.
I am going to make a nice cup of tea and have a snack.
Thanks for the post!

(14,595 posts)Quote from The Grapevine, March 1962:
One exercise that I practice is to try for a full inventory of my blessings and then for a right acceptance of the many gifts that are mineboth temporal and spiritual. Here I try to achieve a state of joyful gratitude. When such a brand of gratitude is repeatedly affirmed and pondered, it can finally displace the natural tendency to congratulate myself on whatever progress I may have been enabled to make in some areas of living.
I try hard to hold fast to the truth that a full and thankful heart cannot entertain great conceits. When brimming with gratitude, ones heartbeat must surely result in outgoing love, the finest emotion that we can ever know.
Thanks for sharing those thoughts, Happybird. An attitude of gratitude can often save us when our minds drift toward the poor-me's, anger, resentments and fears. I think of it as an emotional and mental reset button, as it can knock me down off my high-horse and get me re-grounded.
Your post inspired me to dust off my ragged old copy of 'As Bill Sees It' which accompanied me on my travels for many years. Thank goodness it has a topic index, which helped me find the above quote. Highly recommended daily companion for anyone in recovery.
