Addiction & Recovery
Related: About this forumToday Is My 23rd Sobriety Anniversary
After waking up with a pounding headache and a horrible hangover, I made the decision to stop drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes at the same time. Life is so much clearer and stable being sober. I know that I made the best decision for my body and myself. I am so proud of my epic accomplishment!

(10,227 posts)You have every right to be proud after pushing aside some bad habits even more impressive when you include tobacco.
It was 3 years for me on Thanksgiving. I only wish I'd seen the light 50 years ago.
As you said, life is better all around.
Cheers for all of us and a happy 23 for yourself!

(6,836 posts)The day I started this journey was the day I became able to recover lost parts of myself. This is one of the most rewarding aspects of true self. To discover that we have strength and wisdom beyond what we could have ever imagined is a gift of the highest order. Stay strong. Stay wise JM

(6,836 posts)Do not give up on him! Keep trying different ways to connect with him. Tough love does not work, its a false solution. I understand your journey with him. The fear of losing him becomes overwhelming at times. The many many years of prayers for their healing make us feel like we are failing.
I could write a tome about my son.He was intelligent, creative, talented and loved people. He was also addicted to alcohol and drugs. He lost his life here on earth from a drug overdose. I feel terribly responsible, the guilt hits hard randomly. He tells me that this was his path. Even so I am always left with the thought that I could have done better, been more there for him, been more understanding, compassionate, forgiving, present. I do know that all my prayers and attempts to help him were not useless, he has passed his earthly test and is redeemed. Start to shift the way you see your son from a vision of damage to a vision of healed self.
Be those ways now. Peace, CP☁️☁️
