Month #8 of the feeding tube blues

All I have to say to people who have had chemo and radiation on your throats is that the healing process is long and not fun .
Don't let anyone hurry you or make you feel lousy because you can't eat like you used to .Everyone is different in this recovery process
so there is no set amount of time before you get saliva and taste buds back plus what we crave is what is the hardest to stuff down your throat.

Some doctors have told me to push myself and suffer while others say it's just time that heals .....

if anyone wants to commiserate with someone who has to eat thru a gross tube ---I'm here alive and OH SO HUNGRY .

I refused a feeding tube, but lost most of my saliva and taste buds to radiation. It took me from May til October before I could eat stuff that didn't taste like dirty socks. Then my jaw bone developed a hole, so it wasn't until June, or 13 months later, that I began to feel like a human being again.

Hang in there and find a SPOHNC group near by. Attend a meeting or two.

Just today I found out about allergies affecting my throat and millions of other people's throats.
So it's worth a shot at some allergy meds now then chemo and radiation are over .

I just miss eating ,know I have too so I watch food shows to get hungry then eat something that taste like a mouth full of dust .

A frustrating paradox but it beats being dead (maybe )
