Ending this year, and starting a new one on a good note

Remarkably, and a bit questionable, I brought Carol home this evening! She talked the doc into letting her out of the hospital after the first chemo treatment today. It was supposed to take 4 hours, beginning around 2:00 pm, but she pulled the needle out of the chemo port somehow, and it wound up taking about 7 hrs. We left the hospital around 9:30 this evening.
Of course, she is extremely glad to be home. HAving someone waking you every hour or so to stick you with something or to take vitals doesn't allow for much rest. She is still very weak, but I suppose that is still from the rad treatments.

She will be getting her first full night of sleep tonight, without being tethered to IVs or canulas. She is in her bed, in her home.

I don't really know what to expect from the chemo treatments. It was Taxol, and I think that's some nasty stuff, but so far, she seems to be tolerating it well. That's probably because of the IV meds they gave her before the chemo. I'm sure this coming week will bring more challenges.

Nonetheless, she is home, and is now sound asleep. I can look forward to not having to get up and heading to the hospital tomorrow.
Even I can sleep in if I want! SPending the last four days in a hospital room has been pretty taxing, and it's an hours drive to get to and from the hospital. About all I had time to do at home was feed the pets and myself, take a bath, sleep, get dressed, and head back out. I've had to contact friends and relatives each evening when I got home to update them on her progress. That took a couple of hours of my home time. I am soooo looking forward to some R&R tomorrow.

God bless you all, and I hope you all have a great New Years.

I hope this new year will be better for everyone !
I'm glad she is able to be home right now
She will be more comfortable and be able to get some much needed rest for her and you too! Hospitals are no place to be if you want to sleep! Besides them coming in constantly to take vitals the beds are very uncomfortable !
Prayers for you both

Chemo can be very hard. Be prepared to feel helpless. Keep the oncologist's number handy and call him if problems come up. There are lots of ways of countering the discomfort. Stay positive and get as much rest as possible.

"I've had to contact friends and relatives each evening when I got home to update them on her progress. That took a couple of hours of my home time."

I set up a page on caringbridge site where I could enter journal updates, it not only took less time for me, but my husband found comfort reading the messages (and some jokes) left by others. I was not sure how he would feel about this, but he said that it was very helpful and he looked forward to reading the messages. Naturally there were some people I kept in touch with by phone and shared more of my concerns, but it kept the bulk of people in the loop.

So sorry you and your wife are going through this and I'll be keeping you both in my thoughts.
