My wife is having a wedge lung resection to get biopsy material for suspected thyroid cancer metastasis on Tuesday.
Monday we travel to NÝC to Memorial Sloan Kettering. The plan is to return home on Saturday, all things being possible.
It will be a test of us at age 73.
I am entering my hyper-focussed zone to deal with all the unknowns and my wife is making lists.
Here we go.

(407 posts)6 hour drive to NYC, surgery done Tuesday, discharged today at 2 pm, flaked out in hotel now.
Won't get biopsy results for a month. Follow up, stitch removal in 2 weeks.
Half the elevators in hospital were out, so everything took longer. My wife was told not to drink or wash with the water in the hospital. As we were waiting for the last minute paperwork before discharge we were told the water had tested positive for Legionnaire's.
Modern medicine. You pays your money and you takes your chances.

(407 posts)Biopsy shows NO lung cancer, "just" thyroid cancer.
The next results in a month - genetic breakdown to figure out specific treatment plan.
Stitches out, chest X ray ok.
My wife is still tired and a little sore, but news has been so far, so good.
