Been to a 3rd World Country, told i have parasites....has anyone had to deal
with this problem, or know first hand about some of the problems surrounding this issue?
I have been sick since December 30th..and to start things off on the wrong foot I was exposed to my grandaughter's whooping cough (she was hospitalized and I kept her the night before....therefore they decided I had adult whooping couogh.
As time rolled on March, April and May doctors decided ...all the symptoms pointed to "Asthma"..which
I do not have..nor do i respond to the alburteral breathing treatments or rescue inhalers.
In a ten month period I have had every test and seen Many DOCTORS and twice in the emergency room and ended up at Kansas University Hospitals seeing a pulmonary doctor...who was quite arrogant and rude.
Then my doctor decided to do a stool specimen...everything has changed...but am looking for more information. Or does anyone know of forums (that you can read and understand.) I found several forums but they are very user unfriendly to get around in and respond...etc.
Thanks.

(113,130 posts)As to specific lung based parasites, I can't tell you much, there are quite a few of them. I do know that parasitology as a specialty is more prevalent in population centers where there is a lot of immigration and world travel.
Finding which parasite is responsible for your symptoms can often lead to a cure or at least a treatment. A stool sample was a great place to start.

(6,096 posts)and told me he thought I probably had parasities. I am on ParaGONE...and various other things that my chiropractor (and my 2 chiro sons in Manila) recommended I take..and it's pretty grueling. I did not know parasites feel off of glucose..they LOVE SUGAR...SO the worst part of taking these supplements for 35 days is the fact I am so restricted in what I can have.
I also cannot have cheeses, milk products, wheat, sugar, alcohol, coffee (I have coffee) I cannot give up everything.
If this doesn't work when I am through I have been told to go back to the gastroenterologist that found what he "thought" was whooping cough debris in my reflux area. That is where I had a mass, for over 6 months that i kept coughing up and it kept hanging in there and I told my friends it felt like something was growing in side of me.
I thank all 3 of you for responding. DU certainly has some wonderful forums....and I am searching every where I can. Thanks for the kind words and I'll take any leftover prayers you all have.

You need a better doctor.

(13,145 posts)out if there is one such at a teaching hospital you can get to. there are also special tropical disease labs that possibly could analyze a specimen.

(6,096 posts)might be a way to go..I went to Kansas University Hospitals (like a version of Mayo for KC) but the doctor was extremely rude..he was a pulmonary dr. However, I will check into this.
I cannot fly right now because my breathing is not quite right. The pills from my doctor (Flagyl) enabled me to take deep deep breaths again in October (When it happened I laughed and cried at the same time because I DID NOT realize how little oxygen and air I had been getting. I can still take DEEP breaths and I am AMAZED each time I do.
I still have the wheezing, and am hoping these supplements from Nature's pantry are going to do the job. Apparently they are very effective for many parasites, but according to the Clay County Health Dept. the parasite I have can be very resistant.
I just have to keep my mind from going to "visuals of what is going on inside of me" but so far I am just not going there, because I AM SO damn happy that my breathing has definitely improved.
I do seasonal work at the IRS and had to take a medical last year, and I am praying I will be able
to work the entire time from around Feb 1st to May 15th. it sure helps the budget..and pays for my trip to go back to Manila. Which I plan to make one more trip to see my new grandson, but it will be my last as I am 67 years young..and don't enjoy traveling...would be more fun if I had someone to travel with..lol.
And this time I will be pumped full of whatever it is I need to keep the critters at bay.
Thanks for the tip...

(6,096 posts)I am doing better.. My breathing has done a 360 .. can take deep breathes..and after 10 months I am thankful for this. However, I still have wheezing about 20% of the time and it feels as if that persistent
cough in the mornings - almost like there is a large marble size mass between my breasts....
I often wonder how my sons who live in the Philippines have avoided parasites.
I was diagnosed once with COPD, these american doctors don't doctor...they assume and I have a pharmacy in my house to prove it...lol

(6,096 posts)to go back and see my gastroenterologist.
But thanks so much for the info. It's nice to have people providing good wishes and advice.
I lost my husband 5 years ago, and how I wish, especially through the holidays, that he was here and "could" help me make big decisions. That is what I miss the most when I haver been so sick.
And finding ways to fill the lonliness is not easy.
Everyone have a Wonderful Thanksgiving. I am thankful for several of the forums in DU!!!
and THANKFUL that finally I can breathe again!!!
being on your own, not having someone else's advice or opinions especially when you've had them to depend on before. It does get easier though or so they say!
I hope everyone here has had a nice Thanksgiving Day!
