Related: About this forumAnyone here have a vitamin D deficiency?
I have been battling this problem for awhile now and my Doctor told me it because of my HIV. They are doing research on it to find out why this is happening to HIV positive people but nothing conclusive yet. I am even taking a prescription vitamin D to no avail.
Anyone else experiencing this?

(22,541 posts)I don't have HIV. But I do have CVID, common variable immune deficiency. It's not common, it's just a catchall diagnosis that describes 6 different types of rare to extremely rare immune deficiencies.
So I'm thinking there might be a link somewhere. I take Rx vitamin D and the numbers have improved a bit. Remarkably, I can actually feel the difference when I forget to take it for a couple of days. I have more energy when I'm on it. Not a lot, but certainly more than I had before.
I'm really bad about taking medications, so I've certainly had enough experience on it and off of it. I do inject my Hizentra every day, though. Can't forget that.

(10,039 posts)I'm not HIV/Aids positive, but I think this deficiency is common.
Working in an office with no sunlight, or if anyone is like me, using their house as a cave to play videogames or to read in, you're just gonna have problems.

The problem here is HIV medicine is causing our deficiency. We are on this medicine for life, it's not like we can correct this problem with a easy solution of just going outside.
My condition has gotten to the point I am going in for weekly shots to try to boost my vitamin D.

(10,039 posts)Except with me, it's B-12 shots because my digestive system doesn't absorb it, and bipolar II/endometriosis meds.
I doubt there will ever be a "cure" for bipolar. But for HIV/Aids, I can see it happening someday.
You know the speech. "Well, we can't cure it, but we can manage it."
