Mental Health Support
Related: About this forumThis is very touching and I want to share it with you
I didn't write this, and I don't know who did. Just found it on Imgur and I think it's very well done.
The person who posted it gave this title:
"Made this after my brother took his life last month. PLEASE - if you're hurting, ask for help"

In addition, actual help is far too expensive in this country to be of any real assistance except for the top percentile holders. The rest just get a wave and a pat on the back. With some pills, in hand, we are just tossed back out there to make our way as best we can. Well, sometimes there is no other way without actual help. Since only about 8% of the nation can afford to get that... what do we do?

Sometimes the only thing you need is for someone to patiently listen.
But where does one turn if the issues are with the loved ones? I don't know, but it seems that a mental health professional would be the best answer. Every state and county has a mental health facility of some sort. Not all of them are good but many are. They're normally staffed with trained professionals who can listen and answer questions, find programs where people can find assistance. Many facilities have online assistance programs because they can't do much personal outreach during Covid-times.
I guess it takes personal initiative to find this help.

(6,339 posts)If you are trying to get actual help, that is. Without the cash, all that initiative is going to do is show you that you don't have the money. And, show you just how completely screwed up our societal efforts are these days. Not somewhat, not kinda, not mostly, but completely. (Full disclosure: I have tried county programs five times in two different states. They have all been little more than window dressings. Face it, mental health is a detriment to profit and societal face, so neither are going to get much attention around here anytime soon. Sorry, but reality sucks.)

(14,595 posts)Our society is making this problem much worse as time passes. This new wave of demands for self-sufficiency and independence drives people apart and it especially thrives on the male ego. I believe social media makes this problem much worse, as it allows people to make claims and statements they would never do in-person.
Exercising humility and face-to-face sharing of our lives, charity and community service are nowadays looked down upon by many but are ways we can help improve our human condition and reduce self-harm.
