Related: About this forumEver get obsessed with a movie?
Or artist, etc? I don't know if this is evidence of mental illness, but I'll see a movie that draws me in, and I'll become obsessed with it. Today its Born Free. It doesn't matter if it's a new movie, or older movie. I'll Google and learn everything I can about the movie, the cast, etc. Does anyone else do this?
I've been doing it my whole life.

(2,853 posts)When she is wound up and kinda getting on Dads final nerve, its Bohemian Rhapsody or Secretariat into the DVD. She calms and I find my self humming or singing during movie.

(13,881 posts)To the emotional experience of watching. I was blown away yesterday by Born Free. I'll try to watch it tomorrow. But I didn't emotionally up to seeing it today. That's how much it moved me

(15,625 posts)I recently went to visit a friend in another city. We went to see Ant-Man 3, and she wanted to see the first two movies so we went back to her apartment and watched them. It drives her crazy that I look stuff up like that, and when Scott (who has stolen the Ant-Man shirt) is trying it on for the first time, I say, "Can I tell you one thing?" NO! So I waited until the next day and said, "Hey, do you remember when he fell on that older Black man's car after jumping out the window?" Yeah. "That was Garrett Morris from Saturday Night Live. He was the first person to dress like Ant-Man on TV, which is why they had in the movie." Oh, that's cool.
She introduced me to the UK series, "Derry Girls," and during one episode they mentioned, "The Walls," and so I started searching to see what the Walls were (defensive walls/gates built around the Londonderry in the 1600s). She got upset with me. I said, "Do you know what the Walls are?" No. "Well, I want to know."

(51,308 posts)As I read your post, I was busy googling one of the characters on Mad Men, which I'm rewatching for no good reason.
First I had to google why he and the other character broke up, and then that led me down the rabbit hole of this guy's career. He was just a small character, and I don't think I'm any better for learning who he is, but there ya go. I just had to know!
I'm really bad about that with old sit-coms too. I'll recognize someone (who was much younger at the time), and if I can't guess who it is...there I go to google lol. I don't think it's mental illness, just insatiable curiosity.
I can't say I've been doing it my whole life because there was no google for the greater portion of my life (so far), but yeah, you are not alone!

(13,881 posts)I was reading up on Jared Harris bcbof Mad Men! Like others here, I sit and just explore all sorts of stuff on the internet. I just ordered the book Born Free from the library.
And the grave of Elsa the Lion. It's amazing what the internet can find you. Lots of crap, but good stuff, too

(52,262 posts)That means it was a good film to you. I always start to watch a film and then I Google it for all the info about it and the cast, etc. Films that I first saw years and years ago and rewatch then Google for info I find new things that were important but I missed. An example is Midnight Cowboy. I had no understanding of the flashback scenes but after Googling the film it finally made sense only a hear ago.
I prefer spoilers. I need to be able to follow the film. This is why I like Columbo. He told you who was guilty from the start so you could follow the crime better.

(38,936 posts)It makes my wife crazy when I notice the flora or geology doesn't match the presumed setting, or that mountains, jungles, palm trees, all sorts of things, are 'shopped in.
When a movie is over I'll go to the internet and often find my speculations about actual locations were correct.
Nope that wasn't New Hampshire as claimed. It was Utah.
And that's certainly not Los Angeles or New York.
I'm absolutely delighted when Paris is Paris, or Rio de Janeiro is Rio de Janeiro.
One of the most disappointing movies I ever saw was Gravity. Everything was broken about that. I could not suspend my disbelief.

(I apologize but that one is especially insulting to those of us who grew up there. I can't say I obsess over movie trivia in general, but I do when they could be filming on the actual Outer Banks... but noooooooo.
