I'm heartbroken. I'll never find a kinder, more-empathetic helpful dr than he. I asked him a few yrs ago, and he said he wasnt retiring for a long while. He helped me get ssdi. He's always on my side. He's funny and warm.
There's not even a reason to continue living in this area once he retires. He was the main reason I wanted to stay here. He's earned retirement but, on top of current health, domestic, and social issues, this is a blow.

(4,314 posts)Perhaps he may be able to recommend a new one where you are or where you would like to move to.

You mentioned the possibility of moving. Are you up for adventure? Where would you go? 😃

(13,485 posts)Until he retires. The Big Cheese announced yesterday potentially mentioned Polk county Florida, eye roll. Not sure. I was actually thinking of buying here to remain his patient, but this is a HCOL area hit by hurricanes. So, insurance. I rent now.
If he's retiring, I can't afford 200k for an average 2-bedroom condo. I know it sounds weird to live near a doctor, but he was that great

(9,019 posts)I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm assuming he was a Psychiatrist who also provided counseling. Many Psychiatrist's main function is to prescribe and monitor medication.
I have a wonderful Psychiatrist who I only need to have a session two times per year (unless I want to explore the options of having a medication change). During those times, we do touch base on what's happening in my life but it's not full-fledged counseling (like with a therapist).
I'd be very surprised if your current Psychiatrist won't have an excellent recommendation for you.
I wish you well!
Meds and therapy.
