Mental Health Support
Related: About this forumReally struggling. Dying cat who shouldn't be.
Our Trixie is 12, and to look at her face she's happy and healthy. But she throws up all the time and has consumed her body down from 11 to maybe 5lbs. She also has urinary issues. She tries to go, straining, everywhere all the time. Just drops come out. The one vet visit we could afford this spring showed her blood work as great, but since her bladder was empty no sample was collected. We assumed uti and gave her antibiotics. It didn't clear anything up, though she peed larger amount on the anti-inflammatory.
And now we're tapped out, I'm watching her die by inches, and it's killing me. We couldn't afford the $500 for that visit, and right after we had to get four new tires for the car, so no chance of a second visit. I'm sad and mad and frustrated. I can't talk to hubby about it, be cause he feels bad that the cat and I are unwell. I don't want to add to his own mental strain. He's carried so much over the years. I just want to climb into the fridge and eat everything.
Here's my baby before she got sick. Such a sweet girl!!

(9,936 posts)..rather than leave her suffering if you don't have the gargantuan amounts of money vets charge these days to have her adequately diagnosed and treated -- it's best to let her go so she does not continue to suffer.
There's no shame in it. It's a final act of love. Please don't let her suffer anymore. The urinary issues have probably spread to her kidneys. This would cause irreversible damage. But I'm not a vet, so that's just a guess. She's clearly suffering.
Never let one of my pets suffer again because I couldnt let go.
Just my opinion, but maybe its time.
Sorry for your pain.

but Ive rescued in the neighborhood of 100 basset hounds over the years. Ive typically kept the old and sick and work on a shoestring veterinary budget.
It almost sounds like kitty has some sort of growth impairing her elimination. In my mind, that means cancer. And only a more advanced cancer usually shows up in bloodwork. Dont beat yourself up about not spending money you dont have on vet care. Youve kept a roof over your heads, food in your home, and given kitty a wonderful life.
Im so sorry youre having to go through this. We NEVER have them long enough. Even as painful as her decline is and her loss will be, its just a gift that youve been able to share this amazing love with each other.
Its hard to see it today, or even tomorrow, but there will come a time when youll smile when you think of her.
I promise I speak from experience. I lost my 6.5 year old St Bernard about six weeks ago. His bloodwork was also perfect 2 months earlier when he had a cracked tooth removed. I lost him very unexpectedly to Hemangiosarcoma.
Holding you and Trixie in my heart.
