(10,420 posts)But I'm pretty sure you can go to any acupuncturist and they will attempt to treat you for anxiety and depression if you want them to. Your psychiatrist probably wouldn't object. You'll probably have a lot better luck with the meds, though.

(19,288 posts)SSRI's any more. It bothers my gut. I had to take it at night and it still made me retch in the morning. Everything moved out of my system in a hyper hurry. I felt like I had the flu. My mood was not much better. I had a serious situational problem. It was depressing.
Stuff does happen to my innards when I get upset and that is; everything stops. I can't eat, can't sleep can't poop. I suppose the antidepressant reverses that shut down. It was awful. It stops my sex drive, too.
Coming off them was not fun either. I didn't feel much from it until a couple of weeks after. I didn't have the 'brain' shocks everyone describes but shocks at the level of my lowback fusion that went down both legs, weakened my knees, and made me feel like I was going to faint. It was only a week, though.
I'd have to go the natural route. Maybe it helps pain, too.
Started that while ago, just for the general health aspect of the practice which suits me - mostly simple relaxed standing and concentrating with mental images.
Many various practices on the "natural route", hope you find what suits your needs and temperament. Probably won't do much harm to check out what's available and try some out. And long walks in forest - or what ecotypes are most available - are always good natural routes (their healing aspect is conformed also by academic studies).
My son is a massage therapist he tells me similar things about doing specialized movements to unblock my energies.
Very simple exercise is just to feel your body with "proprioceptic" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proprioception) sense, usual guide is to start from hands and feet and proceed from there to whole body feel. Pain is just information, and just one aspect of body sense of self.
