Depression, glutamate, Ketamine, Vitamin B

I heard a report this morning on NPR the use of Ketamine to relieve depression.

It sounds good, but I am very dubious about a drug that can so easily be abused. Apparently, the drug affects glutamate in the brain. I've had excellent results after adding Deplin (a form of Vitamin B) to my other drugs. Google glutamate and Vitamin B and you come up with some cross connections.

Just food for thought, so to speak!

as a far safer alternative, albeit slower to show effects.

Depression is such a devastating problem for so many people. The mental (motivational) "paralysis" that comes with it, has undoubtedly led to many more people on the street, who otherwise might have found a way to hang on--even after loss of jobs and other stresses. This country simply must do more to deal with the mental health issues that devastate so many.

I'm heartened to hear, though that researchers are moving away from that dogmatic "serotonin" theory as the cause of "all that ails us". Prozac never was a "wonder" drug.
