(115,871 posts)I am sure there are some who will speak poorly of mental illness, but more who will call them on it. I see people worrying that the msm will try and pull off "oh, he was mentally ill" rather than addressing the underlying racism, but don't think that is prejudice against the mentally ill.
I don't see DU in any way compares to freeperville or cc.
I found a thread you must mean. It is tempting to call his problem mental illness to explain it, coming from of course no one mentally healthy would murder a shitload of people, but it is wrong to try and diagnose mental illness.

I've always admired how you attempt to have an honest discussion about this. I don't know that I would have your patience.

(36,063 posts)I do understand it's a likely consequence of my own anxiety. Borderlines hate rejection and I can't separate myself from the feeling that during these events a majority of DUers toss the mentally ill into the trash.
I haven't had a personal (non-business or non-scam) email in a couple years. I haven't had a personal phone call since 2002. DU is much more important to my sense of belonging than it should be.
When DUers fuck with the mentally ill, it's personal, and it's threatening.

(1,771 posts)But, I know you knew that. I've seen the odd glances and I try to guess what "they" might be saying about me..... "yea, he's the crazy fuck that tried to kill himself".
I have seen a slight change in DU overall largely because of your efforts. You should feel good about that. It's a long trail covered in muck.

(36,063 posts)He was a big fan of AlterNet whose editors love stigmatizing language in their subject lines.
He was a very dedicated poster of stories he found interesting on Alternet, but he was totally blind to the stigmatizing language used at AlterNet.
His post of stigmatizing language drove my anxieties. But I miss him.
Twisted. I know.
