Last Full-Time Abortion Clinic in Kentucky Vandalized Twice in Three Weeks
Kentuckys last remaining full-time abortion clinic has been vandalized twice in less than one month.
On the night of October 26, EMW Womens Surgical Center in Louisville suffered a broken window when an unidentified man bolted past protestors across the street and threw his body into the clinics window. The clinics executive director, Anne, who withheld her name for security reasons, said following the incident, the man walked away calmly, leaving the window in pieces. Just three weeks later on November 11, surveillance cameras captured a male perpetrator kneeling and praying in front of the clinic. According to Anne, forty-five minutes later, the man returned, this time with a blanket over his head and in a matter of minutes, hurled a rock through the offices window before walking away. Louisville police report the clinic sustained some $1600 in damage in the two incidents combined.
The twin incidents in Kentucky are the latest in a spate of vandalism and violence against womens healthcare providers nationwide, the most recent attacks occurring in the wake of the release of several fraudulent and surreptitiously-recorded videos by anti-abortion group the Center of Medical Progress (CMP). Last month, an intruder wielding a hatchet destroyed telephones and other office equipment in a Planned Parenthood clinic in Claremont, New Hampshire. In September, two clinic were set ablaze by arsonists in Washington state and California respectively. This summer, two clinics in Louisiana suffered property damage in separate incidents of vandalism and in March, trespassers destroyed security cameras and a power generator at Mississippis Jackson Womens Health Center. CMPs so-called sting videos claimed to document the illegal sale of fetal tissue by Planned Parenthood, but have been debunked repeatedly.
For now, Kentuckys EMW have affirmed their commitment to providing reproductive care and abortions services to the women of Louisville. Were not angry, were not afraid, were just really sad that the mentality out there isnt more understanding and compassionate for women, said EMWs Anne. Theyre not going to intimidate us.

(25,348 posts)...like that and hire a guard (s) to keep that kind of human trash from costing the clinic thousands of dollars plus all the heartache and hassle.
People shouldn't be afraid to go to work...and (most likely, stressed-out Women) need to feel safe and comforted in such times as that.

(25,348 posts)"I understand" or "I feel your pain" but (of course) you are fully aware that while I may try to understand and also try to feel your pain, I can't. I haven't had the experience of the feelings that a lot of women have. What I CAN do is listen and offer what little support that's possible.
Actually, now I think of it, this might approach the realization of the subject.
I had kidney stones last year. Through impossible odds (I was in the Australian outback.. alone) the pain grabbed me like it came from Hell's Fury. You know when people say.."Damn, just shoot me" ? I would have in a heartbeat, no problem. For 2 days I screamed and cried with pain. 54 hours of horrible, disgusting torture. (I learned that they had broken up into needle-like things) I was going to throw myself off of a small cliff but since it was only 30 feet high, I was afraid I'd live.
Anyway. Now that I've told you that story. (it's true) Do you feel exactly what I felt? No, of course not. I'm damn glad you don't!
But you did read it and feel something and all that.
That's how I feel. I'm sorry that I can't feel exactly like women feel but at the same time, I admire you for taking so much crap for so long. It must truly suck sometimes...but some of us really do care.

(119,362 posts)Guess it is just a "women's" issue...can't expect them to get worked up over that.
