AUSTIN, Texas (CN) The Texas House of Representatives on Tuesday approved a bill that prohibits private insurers from providing coverage for abortions, rejecting amendments that would make exceptions for rape, incest or fetal abnormalities the bills author said on the floor: Rape very seldom results in a pregnancy.
House Bill 214 would prohibit private and state-offered health insurance plans and insurance plans purchased through the Affordable Care Act from providing general coverage for abortions, except in medical emergencies when a womans life is in danger.
The bill requires women who want coverage for abortion to purchase supplemental health insurance.
The legislation does not require insurers to offer such supplemental coverage, meaning that women could be forced to pay out of pocket for the procedure that can cost the equivalent of a months rent.

(16,384 posts)What a shit hole!
And please no more BS about how people are trying to change things...the majority of the population are either fire breathing religious fanatics, bible thumping neanderthals, racists, bigots, and woman hating idiots( and that includes other women)!
Nothing short of a sink hole opening up under the capital while the state legislature is in session, is going to change the direction of Texas and even that isn't a guarantee!
Too many people there are so indoctrinated in the crap being sold by evangelicals and the Republican party, that Texas reminds me of a smaller version of North Korea...I'm just waiting for the time when the majority hates the US government so much that they'll start eating grass, instead of shipping in food from out of the state!!!
