Smoking Cessation
Related: About this forumThree weeks smoke-free today
I am using an e-cig and it's making it very easy to stay away from tobacco.
I never thought I'd see this day.
Good luck to the rest of the quitters!

(2,514 posts)congratulations that is a big deal..
LadyHawkAZ
(6,199 posts)I found that the desire to quit was the biggest hurdle- I loved my cigarettes. After I started the thyroid meds, though, tobacco lost a lot of its appeal. It didn't feel or even taste the same anymore. I always said I would quit when I stopped enjoying it, and that's exactly what I did, and quickly!
This was one of those things that I've filed under "totally unexpected medication side effects", along with losing my cravings for junkfood.
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)and i think you are right. the best i have done is with chantrix and i loose the desire. but i miss them so.
now... onto yoga for you. that is a wonderful physical (throw in some self pilates) and mental exercise..... and you are set to go.

(26,312 posts)Congrats!!!
I started with DSE901s, but those batteries were crap, and now on my 3rd PureSmoker unit - but it seems to only want to work whenever the hell it feels like it, which keeps me keeping analogs on hand out of frustration.
I'd like to try a different one, but with the explosion of mods the last few years, the e-cigarette-forum has really gotten difficult to navigate.
Recommendation?
LadyHawkAZ
(6,199 posts)every smoke shop in town has the cartridges and they're easy to use. The battery on it isn't fantastic either- 8-10 hours on a full charge- but it's easy to puff on and the cartridges don't taste too bad.
I started with a Fifty-One Trio but it was horrible- tasted foul and only had one air inlet so puffing it sucked in my cheeks.
Ruby the Liberal
(26,312 posts)My old 901s got about 2 hours of intermittent use. The PureSmoker ones got 4-5, when they felt like working. Sounds like quality has vastly improved in the last year.
I'm on Chantix now, but if it doesn't kick in soon, I am going back to the ecig.

Good luck!

(26,312 posts)because of all of the various problems.
The only reason my Doc approved it last month is because this is my second go round. I quit successfully a few years ago on it and tolerate it without any major problems. Stupid me - that was like the 30th quit and I thought I could have "just one".

ecigs are the only thing that ever worked for me keep it up!

(10 posts)It seem you are not addicted in smoking. With a e-cigar you will have so tasty for cigarrete. I am not accustomed to employ e-cig.
Quiting smoking is not easy, MAN.

(6,199 posts)We go to Nevada to gamble once a month and sitting at a machine still triggers a desire to chainsmoke. So I smoke. Then I get sick. This month though I am not taking any analogs- just my ecig. We'll see how it goes.
The ecig keeps me away from the tobacco the rest of the month with no problems.

(22,772 posts)I have the seasonal ones - like after a long day in the garden, I remember how satisfying a cig and a cold beer was to me. Mercifully with time the triggers have faded, but I still get the pang from time to time. All of my best to you.
LadyHawkAZ
(6,199 posts)But not too badly- 4 cigarettes instead of the 10 or 20 I usually go through when I gamble. The cartos I've been refilling are wearing out, so my ecig didn't work all that well, so I caved in.
BUT, things are getting better. Thanks for the support!

(3 posts)Yesterday I had 21st day without smoking, but i drank a bit alcohol and smoked 2 cigs, now i hate myself.
Do you have any experience to stop smoking and never smoke again?
LadyHawkAZ
(6,199 posts)I posted this OP almost 2 years ago, and I am still using the e-cig. I've relapsed several times- heavy stress still makes me crave real smoke, as do gambling trips to Nevada. As time passes, that's gotten less and less frequent, as well as harder and harder to do. I notice the effect on my breathing and energy levels a lot more the farther I get from being a habitual smoker, and this helps make it easier to say "Nope!" most of the time.
Don't get discouraged. It happens.
Congratulations on the 21 days! are you doing e-cigs, or gum, or just cold turkey?
tammywammy
(26,582 posts)My mom's interested in it, which I think would probably be the best route for her.
I'm currently on Chantix and I've been smoke free since Thanksgiving.
LadyHawkAZ
(6,199 posts)I'm starting to wean off the e-cig now, alternating it with the gum. Today was mostly gum, not so much e-cig.
Congrats on the quit!

Troll, spamming vote to hide to alert MIRT and ban the troll!
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sat Dec 28, 2013, 09:25 PM, and the Jury voted 2-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: RELAX on the n00bs! He is not spamming. That's his Twitter feed, he just introduced himself, ffs.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: This is not what you may expect DU, but such comments are made on this forum all the time. If this person is a troll, I need more data then this. Please make alert when being a troll is clear on its face.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: I wish the alerter would explain the reason why he or she believes this poster is an actual troll. I will say the post is suspicious but I am unwilling to boot a potentially new and ignorant poster simply because of a suspicion. I believe alerted posts are monitored by MIRT regardless of whether or not they result in a hide. So the poster in question can be monitored without suffering a potentially wrongful hide and/or ban.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given

(38,613 posts)I went with the gum, but whatever works, works!

(2,312 posts)I tried a few years ago and it didn't stick for me.
Just purchased an Innoki itaste and I love it! normally smoke about a pack a day, and I am WAY down. Yesterday was my first full day and I think I smoked 5 or 6 real ones. Today I had my first one at 2 PM. Already feel a big difference in my respiratory system. Like wowsers! High hopes that it's going to work.
PennyK
(2,312 posts)I'm having fun trying different flavors...currently loving Mt. Baker's Extreme Ice.
HOW do you mark what flavor is in your cartridge/cartomizer? I am using small round Post-Its.
LadyHawkAZ
(6,199 posts)so it hasn't been a problem. When I'm trying a new flavor I have separate cartos set aside for testing.
Best of luck with the quit!

(2,312 posts)After a coupla days of half-hearted trying, I realized that the cig was no longer appealing. I'm actually enjoying the vape more than the smoke! It became easy, and I threw out my remaining two unopened packs the next morning. I'm amazed. And I had a reason to do this now; I have surgery coming up, and I knew I'd have to stop, for a while anyway. So happy!
LadyHawkAZ
(6,199 posts)I'm looking at getting one of the 3.0s later this week- on an eGo right now but they really struggle with the Kanger tanks- would LOVE to have one of the iTaste 134s just because they have such a badass look to them, but they want an arm and a leg for the thing... maybe later.
Which one are you using?
Biggest congrats on the transition!
PennyK
(2,312 posts)Only regret is that I didn't get one with a tank that can take the volatile flavors (like citrus). I just had a hell of a time trying to figure out the Kanger tank. I'm not very mechanical (except with my sewing machines), and the assembly diagram was worse than IKEA instructions. None of the parts in the box looked anything like the ones in the diagram. So of course I got juice up the middle .
LadyHawkAZ
(6,199 posts)and the iClear 30 tank to go with it. I apreciate the recommendation- these are great!
PennyK
(2,312 posts)My one piece of advice: DO NOT screw your topper down tight! Apparently it can flatten out the connection and make it not function very well. Ask me how I found out...it can be raised with a tweezers, but best not to do it in the first place.
LadyHawkAZ
(6,199 posts)I killed three eGo batteries before I caught on to what was happening and stopped doing that.

(202 posts)I'm a vaper too and just passed my first year. Not completely smoke free but getting there. I started with ego, then vamo, then zmax's and then (drumroll) got a provari. For tanks I'm liking the protanks2 with aeroflow controller.
I haven't been on DU for awhile and thought I'd check in and see what was happening. I'm a bit peeved at Dem's asking for bans and wondered what was up with that? Kinda confusing because they've made such a positive difference in my life.
LadyHawkAZ
(6,199 posts)but I think I like the iClear30 better- the hit seems a lot smoother and I like the swivel tip.
The Ban It! brigade at DU so far seems to be a very, very few posters- maybe 4 or 5- most here have been supportive of vaping.
PennyK
(2,312 posts)It is pretty sad to see our side come out so against this wondrous solution to an awful problem. I try to make my voice heard wherever I can.
P.S. If you like chocolate/coffee flavors, try Halo's Gourmet Sample pack.
