About these collections.
Search a sampling of historical collections that can help you trace your family history from the 20th century back to the 13 original colonies. You’ll find modern connections, unique facts and even some of our favorite hidden gems.

Tips for searching them.
Begin with the most modern collections and use what you discover to work your way back in time. Pay particular attention to the Sons of the American Revolution Applications, a unique set of family histories that can span from the 17th century all the way to present times.

I have a subscription, but it's still nice to highlight some of these military records.

I wish I'd noticed this earlier, but since my subscription ended I seem to only get these notices the day before.

Vermont is one of the original 13 colonies. Maine, on the other hand, wasn't a colony in its own right but the land was part of the Massachusetts colony.
