(4,725 posts)Than forged, but I would have thought it would survive a 4 foot drop. Might have had some unrelieved internal tension. Glass can do that. I didn't think cast iron would.

(463 posts)Who is the manufacturer? I'm going with an Anodized Aluminum core.

(15,359 posts)Sure there is. Le Creuset sells them with their Toughened Non-Stick Pro series. Other manufacturers likely do as well.

(26,730 posts)I hope you have a proper funeral for this.
I still have two of the set of three cast-iron skillets I got as wedding presents in 1980. The smallest of the three broke years ago. Not sure why, and I've never felt the need to replace it. The other two are much larger, one a frying pan size and the other somewhat deeper. Love them, use them all the time.

(3,026 posts)I've got several pieces, including a very, very, old Griswold and a small Lodge from the early 1900s (so a collector told me).
I would be very sad if either died - especially the Griswold.
Hope you're able to sleep tonight.
at least not on your toe, I assume?

Oven cleaner on cast iron?
At least I will only cook half as much; I could lose some weight.
