I somehow recall this dish as a favorite when growing up, NOT, however 'fresh from the garden,' but my mother made it (I think.)

They are certainly beautiful plants, with purple veins on green scallop-type leaves. The purple blossom is pretty, too. Tonight, however, I found three gold blobs on my leaves. Upon a closer look: Japanese beetles! I picked them off and put them in a container where I will destroy them later. I have to research how to deal with them as I am sure I wouldn't get just three.

(18,871 posts)The lady that runs the veg farm said they were easy. I got one. Nothing did well last year. I skipped a garden this year. I put some potatoes in and they look like they're growing.
You might get only 3 beetles. Don't seem to be swarms of anything again this year. On that cheerful note, coffee!

My wife said you can warm up your dinner. She made Polish sausage with fresh green beans from the garden and a tossed salad. Zucchini brownies with sugar free jello for dessert.
