Related: About this forumRussian Dressing
Im a big fan of the Reuben Sandwich. I like to use pastrami instead of corned beef so technically its called a Rachel. I use pastrami, Swiss (yes, I know it isnt Kosher), and sauerkraut on rye or marble rye bread with caraway seeds, and Russian dressing.
I first looked for Russian dressing in the stores and could only find one and it had garbage ingredients so I was forced to make my own. After some experimentation, drawing on a few recipes from the internet, I came up with this:
Russian Dressing
1C mayo
1C ketchup
2t Worcester
2T horse radish
2T lemon juice
1T garlic powder
½ t black pepper
2t onion powder or flakes
3 - ½ t of one or more of the following:
paprika
hot paprika
smoked paprika
chipotle powder
berbere powder
For example I usually use ½ t each of smoked paprika, chipotle and berbere
C = cup, T = tablespoon, t = teaspoon
Im very happy with this recipe but none of the above is written in stone so feel free to experiment.

(73 posts)The only thing I would add is a little sweet pickle relish to balance the lemon juice.

(4,889 posts)because an early version had caviar in it. Other than that it has nothing to do with Russia. Supposedly it was invented in New Hampshire in 1914.
