Or gelato machine? I really want to make gelato and some machines have settings for both. Is there one you would recommend? I may check thrift stores first but I am not sure about the various brands. I am leaning toward one that has a compressor.
It's not to save money. It's more about controlling what goes in like sugar.
Thoughts?

(11,248 posts)I have a Ninja Creami. It's wonderful for making a couple of servings. You pre-make your ice cream (and they have several recipes in the book) and freeze it for at least 24 hours. Take it out of the freezer and spin it up. Add mix-ins if you prefer.

Im just old school when it comes to homemade ice cream.
And boy howdy there is a science / alchemy to it.
The recipe has to have the right amount of sugar to help in the freezing process. And then the ratio of ice and rock salt.
Last batch I made had crystals in it. I did some research and discovered that I had cut back on the sugar by half a cup, and it froze faster than it should have.
Ill be making another batch soon and will use my recipe to a T.
Ive looked at machines that you mentioned and found them out of my budget. They seemed rather pricey. But if I could afford one Id definitely give it a go!

Mr YD is old school too
