What's for Dinner, Sun., Oct. 6, 2024

Since it's apple season, I chose a recipe from Mollie Katzen called "Blue Moon." It has sliced apple, celery, and walnuts.

The dressing is crumbled blue cheese, mayo, yogurt, and honey. Juice from a lemon, too.

To supplement, I'll have a cup of cauliflower-cheese soup with an antipasto plate--crackers, salami, olives, artichokes.

Kombucha: pomegranate.

Dessert: warmed up chocolate chip cookie with pecans. Hot Bengali spice tea.

Peppers, onions. and potatoes. Fresh tomatoes on the side, iced tea. If I get hungry later, there's still leftover casserole--rice, broccoli, and cheddar. Sugarless strawberry smoothie.

Not my usual; I'm trying a version from the late Laurie Colwin, who wrote 2 of my favorite food books, including recipes.

Sounds good and there should be lots of leftovers. This'll be good in a week where I work 6 days, and work till the end of the day for 4 of them. My co-op had a nice-looking chuck roast and I just haven't had one in a long while.

The Landlady came home from visiting friends on the Chesapeake Bay. She brought back one of my favorites.

Four frozen soft shell crabs that will be floured then sautéed. Before they’re cooked, they’re quite small, not much bigger than a silver dollar. When cooked they expand to full size. We’ll serve them with lemon and tartar sauce.

Corn on the cob and a big green salad to fill out the meal.

Ice cream and cookies for dessert.

Still in the oven.

I used some of the eggplant and made a batch of olive salad. It won't last long. I baked a fresh loaf of bread earlier. It'll be nice to have some fresh food full of vegetables

and that bread baking. I would love the aroma of baked bread in the house.

My brother informed me that he is trying to get rid of Mom's bread machine. I told him I wanted it. Now we have to figure out how to get it halfway across the country.

I know it's a nice one. Mom took her kitchen appliances seriously. I think she was one of the first in the nation to get a microwave.

I love Waldorf !!
Now I want some.

Trip to store after work became Run!
Something was going on in the store and I turned right around as I entered the front doors. Shitshow bigtime!

Ended up with bacon and scrambled eggs with cheese and that trusty naan from the frig on the bottom. Reminiscent of eggs bennie.

from the Indian pizza place nearby. We're on day too-many-to-remember - it's been over a week- of a heat wave (got up to 100 today, tomorrow is expected to be only 90) and I don't feel like heating up the kitchen.
