Orange and Date Salad (Ottolenghi recipe).
Also has radishes and red onion mixed in with torn Lollo Rosso and arugula. Also torn cilantro, parsley and mint.
The dressing is a mixture of lemon juice, garlic, orange blossom water, cinnamon, fennel seeds and olive oil.
This will probably be enough for me but if I'm still hungry, I'll have a cup of one of my soups, either cauliflower cheese or broccoli-garbanzo.
Kombucha: pear mint.
Dessert: a mini-ice cream cone, dipped in milk chocolate. A friend brought me some last night but I already had 2 yesterday.
Chicken thighs marinated in mayo, ras al hanout, ginger & lime;
Eggplant, zucchini, and shishito peppers
Brown rice with a tahini dressing.

(16,825 posts)My go-to's in my new environment are Trader Joe's frozen dinners - especially the Indian ones, Amy's Mexican frozen dinners, sometimes Marie Calendars but they are pricier and seem to have more fat.
I had all of the Ottolenghi books as well as many other very classy ones (Ruth Reichl, Marcella Hazen, etc.). But my partner who owned our house decided that everything belonged to her. Fortunately much of the advice becomes ingrained and doesn't need a printed recipe once understood.
I was just having a conversation with a woman at the grocery store. She said that TJs is one of the few places you can get a fresh salad packaged.
You know why TJ's Indian prepared dishes are so good? Because they don't shortcut you on the dinner with rice. Any other place where you want to buy some frozen Indian food does that. I hate that because I don't eat rice without soaking it first (because of the lead content). Consequently, those frozen dinners are not for me.
I tried to make my own paneer dishes. Ay yi yi. You talk about needing extensive cooking resources, not to mention the cost of multiple items. I decided to go frozen on the paneers after that experience.
I've read most of Ruth's stuff and I think I have a big volume of Marcella Hazan in my library. The RG considers her to be the best Italian cookbook author and recipe writer. He spent 20 years in Italy and learned a good deal about Italian cooking through that, but also by importing their food items into the U.S.

(1,760 posts)Today is our son's birthday, but my husband and I could not persuade him to have dinner at a restaurant. So we're having one of his favorites: spicy-sweet pork sambal noodles. Broccoli to go with, and dessert is cheesecake, made by the recipe that came with the spring form pan my mom bought 60 or 70 years ago, topped with raspberries.

I had a fresh golden delicious apple earlier for dessert. Yum!
