Our entire ceiling is made of slatted wood and cross beams and it will be stained to a mahogany.
Currently the hallway walls are cedar with 15 ft ceilings. We are going to sheetrock over the cedar because the cedar is really impractical.

We do like the golden yellow color and it will go very well with the floors and a 40 foot across full wall fireplace and mantle.

There are things in this house that we cannot change...and have to work around, lol

I realize photos can be deceptive, but the whole effect is monochromatic to the point that some really nice detail is getting lost. Also it looks rather dark. I might lighten it two or three shades before I'd use it.

Then again, I'm not going to have to live with it, you are, so take this for what it's worth. (plink, plink)

I guess the picture is deceptive because I have tunnel vision looking at the wall color to the floor color to the what we are doing with the ceiling and I don't even see those parts, lol

In the kitchen, they are going to use the existing cabinets...and cut out the doors and insert stained glass in them and the countertops are going to be slate.

Not sure exactly about the backsplash yet. My guess is that it will be some type of metal.

Notice the front door and how much better it plays with the wall color. Also molding needs a deeper color.

Rich, warm and inviting, I think.

Is that what you are going for?

Our doors are mahogany--we won't be changing those. However, our ceilings are more of a honey color (see reply above) and we are going to go a little darker with those. We are going for warm and inviting.

Here is a picture of our ceilings--that might help to visualize. The entire house has these ceilings

It is a plank ceiling with cross timbers all throughout the house. It needs to be stained now and we are going to go a little darker. The floor will be lighter.

The fireplace is a pretty strong focal point...it will done in River Rock (at least that is our prelim choice) then the stained concrete floors, and staining the ceilings...I think it is going to be quite beautiful. We are going with the gold/yellow color for the walls to bring warmth because of the stone
