(12,325 posts)I've got an appointment next week to refinished the 70 year plus floors. I don't believe they have been refinished before. I'm hoping they'll turn out like this.

(11,843 posts)One and half inches is an older style, but I was able to find some to make do the last three feet of a hallway, where a previous remodel didn't have done. Mine looked much worse than your's prior to sanding and finishing with a clear poly. I would say that you are going to be very happy as long as they do a good job.

(12,325 posts)the floor guy says they've got plenty of the red oak for patches.
The rough estimate is $2.50 sq ft. My cost will starting at $1000 for apx 400 sq feet. 2 bedrooms, hallway and dining area.

(11,843 posts)The new boards will stick out like a sore thumb if they are all in one spot. What that means is they take out more than just the area to be patched and use the undamaged old boards to mix in with the new boards to cover the entire area. So a new board goes in, then several old boards, new, old, new, etc. the idea is to blend the new boards into the old, not just lay down new boards.

(12,325 posts)He confirmed that this indeed red oak. Woot.
The estimate $2.50 sq ft. $1120 for the job. I will post pictures in about a month with the job is completed.
Thanks everyone.
