When I clean the current one I flush it first so the bowl won't be dry when I spritz it with the cleaner..

But this is a good question, whether the GPF number refers to the volume in the bowl

you are talking about a 40 ounce difference in the two toilets. if your sewage system can handle the low flow I doubt it matters, but if you have any issues that extra quart + may make a difference.

GPF is NOT the volume in the bowl.
I dont know mujch BUT, the volume in the bowl is determined by how high the "trap" is at the back of the toilet,

I think it works that the level of water in the bowl is the same as the level of water ion the trap... ask..and make sure you get a good answer

Ferguson Plumbing Supply is the source for most if not all of the plumbing fixtures. Do their Web Page and use the 800 number,if it is out their,they have it. I used to Special order one piece Rounds in Chair Height thru them. Do not by American Standard One piece,they come from China and are just crappola.

They have two models one comes with "AquaPiston Flush" supposedly better than the regular rubber flapper.

stands up better in high Chlorine Water. The flapper is old tech but functional and if,like I mentioned,looses it's shape in acetic water. Darn 4 dollar flapper seems to cost the consumer an extra 40 dollars in extra water consumption.

I've got a 1946 bathroom and didn't think an elongated bowl would work, either, but the tank and s-bend are so much smaller that it fits perfectly and takes up less space than the old one did. The new tanks on super efficient toilets are absurdly small.

Plus they have standard parts so no problem replacing things when needed. Ours are twelve years old (actually a little older, the mouse was mostly finished in 2007 but we didn't fully move in until 2008) and we haven't had to replace much - a flapper, and a seat. Get a Kohler soft close seat - not only does the seat close noiselessly, the way it hooks on makes the hinges less likely to break.
