I used just regular dawn, that's what I had.

Two tiny drops and the the baking soda! I'm impressed!

I just spent way too much money at Costco on a bucket of dishwasher thingies and it always pisses me off how much they cost.

I use those little packets that come in a tub. Theres room in the door for 2, but I only use 1. Would adding a little baking soda to that compartment do the same thing you think?

I don't think it would hurt anything.

Spotty glasses drive me batty and that fluid you pour into the little hole doesn't seem to make a difference with the hard water we have here.

Just a reminder to anyone trying this: There's a reason the OP said a few drops of Dawn. Drops. Not squirts.

Dishwasher soap is designed to not make bubbles. Dawn is designed to make bubbles. If you use too much, you can break your dishwasher and flood your kitchen.

I used Tide once because I was out of dishwasher soap.

Went into the kitchen about 30 minutes into that 'experiment' and there was soap foam everywhere. Kettle to door knob.

No idea on long term damage to the machine, but it sure made a mess...

Still, Dawn is amazing stuff. I buy it by the half gallon at Costco because even Power Scour isn't quite as good for scouring raw fleece. A cup of Dawn into the soaking water in the washer does the trick. Really greasy stuff like Merino take two soakings but is usually clean enough to dye after the second one.
