Related: About this forumThe roofing project update
The first roofing contractor I called (last Monday) said theyd get back with me w/in 72 hours. And, to be fair, they did, to let me know the estimator would be contacting me that day. He finally called on SATURDAY and said hed be in touch this morning to let me know what time hed be here to measure the roof. Its past noon and, so far, no call. And Im not getting anything (like mowing the back lot) accomplished. I'm not forming a good impression of the company. If they are too busy to follow up, all they need to do is let me know. I'd think better of them than I do, right now.
The second place I called is the one who offered me a great deal by throwing in some other replacements that need doing. And, I just got a follow up call from them. My comfort level with this place is high, since they've done work for me, before, and I've been very pleased with what they've done.
Hmmmm. Who should I go with? Actually, I told the guy, today, that I will give the first place a few more hours but, no doubt, I will be calling him, first thing tomorrow morning, to get things going.

(27,285 posts)I thought about calling them but I shouldn't have to chase people down to give them my business.
My only reason for waiting was, maybe someone at the office was supposed to call and didn't, and he's just going to show up. But I think I'm just going to give it until 3 and then call the other place back.

(18,837 posts)If you hadnt, Id wonder why they were not busy. Sometimes its good that companies are very busy.

(27,285 posts)So they are busy. They also have great customer service.
Getting the new windows in October will be a good energy saver. The house was built in 1969 and these the the original windows. I used them to replace all of the front windows, a few years ago. The replacements will be the same style as the big kitchen window.

(27,285 posts)I lived in apartments for most of my adult life. It's taken a while but now that I'm getting the hang of things, I want to fix this house up, sell it, and move to a MUCH smaller house with a MUCH smaller yard.
Since I retired, I realize that I have no idea how I juggled a full time job, and taking care of elderly and ill family members, AND keeping up on the yard and house maintenance, here. I must have been some sort of Wonder Woman.
