(1,979 posts)It heats our 1,600 sq ft rancher. So happy with it plus we just love the whole homestead fire scene. Sappy, I know but we get our joy where we can.

(28,361 posts)My Core stove handled things fine. Did not fire the D/S stove....only in extra cold times.

(16,261 posts)but I recognize the bigger picture... My city/county/region has air quality issues, and restrictions which accompany them. I don't begrudge it, but there's nostalgia about fires in the fireplace when I was a kid.
When we did a remodel a few years ago we had to put a gas insert into our fireplace to meet code. It heats the room (and adjacent rooms) nicely and looks fine and is convenient on/off, but it isn't the same by a long shot.
I've got relatives in the Sierras and San Gabriels who still have wood stoves and wood fireplaces, so I get my "fix" when we visit them in the fall or winter.

(16,261 posts)fireplace/chimney specifically, so I didn't pay attention to the rest of the rules. I can't imagine it would be allowed. (Well, I can imagine; I'm often wrong)
But I'm in a dense suburbia with gas service to every home and no excess timber of any kind to speak of, so it's sort of a moot point on the fuel side anyhow...
