Experts predict a paint shortage in the U.S.

There's been no shortage of, well, shortages over the last year. The latest to add to the list? Paint. According to Sherwin-Williams' CEO John Morikis, the industry is struggling to keep up with high demand after Hurricane Ida halted production of some of the key chemicals and resins needed to make paint. "The persistent and industry-wide raw material availability constraints and pricing inflation...have worsened, and we do not expect to see improved supply or lower raw material pricing in our fourth quarter as anticipated," he said.

If you're planning a home makeover in the next few months or want to paint a room in your house, you may want to go ahead and snag the paint you need now.

I’m sure that we will continue to see hiccups from both the pandemic and natural disasters in the supply chain.

To get paint and they said they didn’t know when they would be able to mix my paint because there is a paint shortage.

Went directly across the street to Menards and they matched and mixed my color while I waited.

Not that I don’t think there will be a shortage of paint (I do), but I do find it interesting that SW is the only one I’ve noticed saying this.

that needed a coat of primer - went to SW and was able to get a gallon only because one had been returned - none in stock! And yes, the sales person warned of a shortage........

They haven’t had ceiling white, flat, or light base for awhile. PLUS at the end of September, they added a 4% across the board fee - commercial and residential (I believe corporate was an exception).

What colors of acrylic paints I am low on and haul my ass to the craft store.

Have some art in progress and it would piss me off if my palette was limited because of this crap..

Guess it's time to dust off the leftovers and touch up what's there indoors.

Outdoors I have 2 gallons, again should be ok for a couple years.

On the plus side, got good results on an old shed by tinting exterior barn paint with these little acrylic ounces, and cutting 50% with water. Yeah I know, don't do it. But it make for a great semi-transparent on rough wood. Can't imagine it will be any worry.
