My lumber purchases Sunday.....I can't imagine the costs to build a house today.

2 each - 1" x 6" x 10ft Tongue and groove, #1 pine boards
2 each - 1 1/4" x 1/2" x 16' flat molding
2 each - 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" x 16' 90 degree corner molding

$155.35

JFC, this is nutz. I remember when that molding was like $.50/ft.

And of course US manufacturers who were competing hard with the lower Canadian prices, raised their prices to follow the tariffed cost of Canadian wood just trying to stay 5% or so below what Canadian wood cost. Not quite the way you hope things would go but welcome to capitalism.

I went in figuring it would cost me $60.00 - $30.00 for the boards and $60.00 for the moldings. I even went back and asked if the prices were in error...I misread 32 ft as 32 ea......

It's not like there aren't any trees in your area. It's not like you have to wait for a ship from China to bring the lumber to your state.

I get why 90 degree corner molding is expensive. Lots of machining and material removal to produce, but it wasn't that much more than the the flat molding.

Seriously, if I'm building a wood framed house today, the lumber has to be 2-2.5x more than it was 5 years ago....

I'm sure your estimate is probably low, I think it's more than 3x the five years ago prices.
