Gardening with the dogs.

I don't know about you guys, but my two dogs are Master Gardeners. This week I laid my veggie garden in. I began with 3 perfectly straight rows for beans, beets and carrots. I carefully worked the soil and sowed the seeds. When I went back to the garden later in the day, I found that my two "girls" had thoroughly inspected my work, trampled on it and probably sent my carrot seeds all the way to China.

Then we go on to corn, squash and potatoes. One dog insists on standing over me and watching every move I make...intently. She will also attempt to redig the holes I just planted the seed potatoes in. The other sits on every plant...tries them all out...doesn't miss a one.

Tomorrow I'll sow some more carrot seeds. It takes patience and a sense of humor.

And our chocolate lab was very appreciative (needless to say, we don't plant them on the deck any more - since our two chocolate labs would strip the plants at just the right time!)

You are supposed to train the dogs to do all the digging----especially since they seem to enjoy it so much!

on the side of the house and there's temporary fencing that goes from the back of the house to the fence on that side so they can't get in it at all. They bark and act like they're really being mistreated when I'm in the garden and they aren't, but at least my plants are safe now.

8. Ours know the pathways around the garden and stay out - their job: rabbit duty.

The rabbits seem to find the all-you-can-eat salad bar to be superior to anything in the neighborhood. We've got the dogs trained to only go after bunnies in the garden and leave the ones grazing in the yard alone. The cats (not ours) think the garden is a litter box, but I can never catch them in action.
