Seedfolks
Paul Fleischman
Judy Pedersen (Illustrator)

A young immigrant girl plants beans in a corner of a vacant derelict lot, remembering her lost father in Vietnam.

Suspicious neighbors slowly help clean up the lot and add their own seeds.

A community is born.

Simple. Profound. A classic.

We were able to give each middle school student a copy of this book.

They had all worked in the school garden, and the Environmental Club had worked there 2-3 times per month.

expresses all the values we hold dear.

I'm lucky to have a good funder for this garden, the Y. The school pays part but things like this come from the Y.
