Related: About this forumWe've got a 6" Zephyr summer squash on one of the vines. Almost big enough to harvest.
They're the ones that are half-yellow and half-green. I'm drooling over it.

(30,884 posts)I like the flavor and the fact that plants will randomly throw off fruit that are all green or mostly yellow with a little cap of green. Never know what might be lurking under those leaves!
I usually grow crooknecks for my summer yellow squash but every few years I substitute a Zephyr.

(47,675 posts)They're supposed to be under tennis ball size and a green, white, and purple striped fruit. Sorry. The name escapes me at the moment.

(30,884 posts)although they're supposed to be a bit bigger (4-5" . We had a bad growing season last summer. This year is much more typical.
I replaced the Prosperosa with a purple/white striped small globe type called Nubia. I'm also growing my favorite white eggplant ("Casper" ) and Black Kings (similar to Black Beauty.)

(47,675 posts)I don't know why people think you have to "sweat out" the so-called bitterness with salt. I eat chunks of it raw (snitching) while I'm preparing it. Wonderful fruit.
