Asparagus can take three growing seasons to harvest; you may be able to lightly harvest during the second year.
For the following years, maintain the bed as in the second year and harvest only the spears thicker than a pencil.
Cut spears that are about 6 inches in length at an angle.
Asparagus freezes well.

The best and easiest way to grow Asparagus is to buy crowns from almost anywhere, even Walmart. The crowns are already 1 - 2 years old, and if you are careful, you may harvest a few spears the very next year.
The time to plant the crowns is now.

Asparagus has turned out to be one of the easiest, low-maintenance, pest free crops we grow.
We are currently in the middle of our yearly Asparagus orgy. We've been harvesting and eating Asparagus daily for about 3 weeks, and have another few weeks to go.

It just seems so WRONG..... Harvesting Asparagus.
