This is how my flower gardens begin. I like some bare shots to contrast with the big summer show.

(60,470 posts)Spring - as in mild days - is supposed to appear on Saturday....I sure hope so! I have flats of seedlings that badly need some warming sunshine!

(19,288 posts)Here's to a bumper crop. I've gone strictly to flowers. My townhouse has a miniature backyard.
Haven't seen anything close!
The daffodils are up about 4 inches. It gets me excited.

(120,583 posts)We're still under a couple feet of snow. I don't think I even remember what flowers look like.

(120,583 posts)I have planted crocuses but they are still under a lot of snow. I probably won't see them for at least a month.

(19,288 posts)I was going to add more comments but sometimes my phone freezes and I can't make the keyboard operate. Hope you thaw soon.

(19,288 posts)It only happens sometimes but it won't type in the body of the message, after a word or two. Weird.

(18,219 posts)This is the time when I hopefully look for any sign of spring, but we have had such a bitter winter that the ground is still frozen. They are saying that they can't even tap the maple trees yet, and it is usually done by now. I haven't even got a tip of green leaves where my crocuses are planted yet.
But.....I did see two Turkey Vultures today, my spring harbingers. So I have hope.

(19,288 posts)Crocuses and turkey vultures. Harbinger s of spring. My mom had to correct me once, in my 20's, for saying harr-bringers.

(18,219 posts)Or maybe not so funny.....I get giddy when spring is finally showing signs of being here.

(39,961 posts)And I haven't even put the tomato plants out yet. I know I'm not that good at gardening, but yeah, that isn't exactly a harbinger of good things to come.

(18,219 posts)I love and admire Turkey Vultures. I even have a painting over the sofa in the living room of what I call "The Three Wise Men"...three Black Vultures (the artist didn't have Turkey Vultures, too bad). And they are so great to use as harbingers of spring because of the unique way that they fly---soaring high enough for me to spot them immediately. Not like the pesky robin, who I have heard singing in the morning all last week but cannot spot him.
Have you got the tomato seedlings ready? Putting them "out" would mean to me "outside", and I couldn't even imagine that this early.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)It's already warm here, like "should I turn on the A/C?" warm here. Life on the Gulf Coast and the MS Delta.
Humidity is stifling already (80%) and it's like 70 out, so it's nobody's idea of cold or mild.

(135,841 posts)a home in DC, and front yard had crocus (and weeping cherry and dogwood. Was lovely.)
Moved out in '06, sold the house in '08, and haven't seen this year's situation. Likely crocus, which used to appear in February, didn't do so then this year, been cold and snow covered around here.
Do miss the experience, the day we'd go out and exclaim: 'Crocus is here!!!'

(3,864 posts)I still can't see anything in my garden. Still under snow.
My garden is in a community garden which is only 3 miles from my house but the microclimate is so different. It is open and the wind blows through. It always has the first frost before the city. But I keep going out and hoping. I am so desperate to see my garden.

(39,961 posts)I ordered six tomato plants to put out, some black seed leaf lettuce (ready to start using in around 40 days), butter lettuce and tabasco pepper from seed to put out.
My mom and dad and my aunt (all whom live in the neighborhood) are great gardeners, but I'm not really that good at it, but want to improve. I have a little area for a garden that gets good sunlight that is about 6' by 6'.
Think I can get some things growing in that?
