Yelow bearded irises

Some one gave them to me. I put them in the ground. They are spreading prolifically. I thinned them this fall. One is about to flower. I have never had more than one flower any given year. What does it need that I am not giving it?

it may be limited hours of sun. My yard gets sun only part of the day. Betsy Ross Mar 2014 #2

Irises need full sun for at least 6-8 hours a day to bloom well.

Are they planted too deep? The top of the rhizome should sit about the soil line.

When you thinned them out, did you break up the rhizomes, or just move some plants out of the way. They should be split every 3-4 years at best.

Is the soil well-drained? They do best in that condition.

Those are my suggestions.
